This is a excellent reminder of uncommon decency. It is easy enough to return the gift of politeness to one who gives it to you first. Good manners come effortlessly with cheerful people, even strangers. Common decency is something anyone can give without too much strength. But uncommon decency takes more exercise, practice, and forethought than some are ever willing to apply to such a thankless endeavor.
